Hey Now! I drove cross country two years ago this month. It is a really nice time to do so.

Two Things:

Do you have an iPod or a digital music player? If you do, you can take your whole hard drive and store it on there, then play it in the car.

I would take the whole 6/7-8-9/77 Run at Winterland. The 9th is my favorite. Also, why not pop in a wonderful Aud recording too - 3/9/81 MSG. 5/1/81 is awesome too... Hampton.

Enjoy your ride. I will come back home from Thailand in June and take six weeks to drive x-country - hitting a bunch of shows.

Watch out for the TX Police, really watch out...It's a long state if you're going that way.

Stilldead, I like your 81 choices. For some reason you dont hear much about that year. I believe that it's because there are not many boards available. Anyway, my personal opinion is that Jerry was at his very best in 1981, and the many Auds out there are just as good if not better than many SBDs. 3-9-81, 3-10-81, 5-1-81, 5-16-81 etc etc

Yes, I agree with you, a fantastic year. I will check out the other two you mentioned.

Check out the two from the Greek 9/11-12. Purple Gel loves these two - so do I.

9/12 is great. Also 8/27/81 is real nice. most people know 8/28 but the 27th is superior. Sound is only average though.

And don't forget 12-9-81 and 12-31-81, two of the other great shows from one of my favorite, and most overlooked, years.

I have 6/9/77 on the list, I'm gonna have to relook at the other two dates. For some reason all the Winterland shows are grate to me, maybe it's growing up south of SF, but just look at the Grateful Dead movie soundtrack, the Closing of Winterland and the 6/7-9/77 run, it seems that they always pulled something special in that building.

I'm thinking about taking something from that Warfield run or maybe just taking Reckoning. Having some acoustic Dead is a must. I've always found it funny that everyone was doing an unplugged album in the mid to late 90's and the Dead had been doing it since the early 70's.
